That’s why I don’t go with copy editors employed by the publishers. They want to go back to old-fashioned sticker rules of grammar and take out personality.

You’re right Rob, and I’ve updated it, but if I wanted to keep it as my “voice” I could when I provide (control) the copy editor.

First off, thanks for introducing me to a new idea. I had not heard of the idea of a Vook before. Having looked at the links you included (again,thank you) my immediate response is “what a dreadful idea”! Books are about imagination, which is why I’m usually disappointed by the film of a book I’ve read because it’s not the same as my imagination created the visuals. If you impose specific visuals then you take away the role of imagination. I guess this is just another inevitable trend in the dumbing down of intellectual thought. Don’t think, look or take the opinion of friends.

Maybe I’ll warm to the idea as I ponder it, but my first response is not positive.

I liked your blog article on self publishing, I even purchased your book.
I’m an Australian based video producer with an eye on emerging markets.
Since you are both an author and a video producer I would like your opinion on the so called “vook” which seems to me to be a very innovative publishing mash up of text video and even twitter. see http://vator.tv/news/show/2009-06-10-sneak-peek-at-vook-the-future-digital-books and http://www.vook.com

I have nothing to do with vook but see the concept as an opportunity for video producers.

Can I have your thoughts on its potential for video content providers.

Good point. Legal Issues would also be your responsibility.

I have to say, I know lots of people who’ve taken screen shots of applications for training or discussion purposes and I know of no-one that’s ever had a negative communication from any company about it. It’s in their best interests to not interfere. Unless you got stupid: I suspect Apple might have a reason to call copyright infringement if you were using the FCP interface in a series of “worst NLE ever” articles. Not that there’s any reason too, just a silly point.

And sorry, I don’t know of anywhere to discuss the issues. Should we start here?

What about the legal issues that may need to be addressed before publishing?

Like writing about and using screen shots of a product like Final Cut Pro without permission from Apple. How much would be considered fair use.

Is there anywhere online that can help address those questions?
