Forget about ‘content management’ and focus on Audience Development

Forget about ‘content management’–and focus on ‘audience development’ http://t.co/CsvtX391

Without an audience there is no monetization.  The article points to five actions:

1. Manage across the many channels of distribution.

2. Adjust the focus from audience to individual.

3. Use abundant user data to know what works.

4. Make your systems look forward, not back.

5. Fully socialize your distribution.

Some thought on Events and Keyword Collections in Final Cut Pro X

Like many people I questioned the metaphor of “Events” in Final Cut Pro X, but ultimately decided it wasn’t that crucial an issue and just let it be. Now that Greg and I are working on our metadata logging app for Solar Odyssey, we have had to solve the same naming question. It turns out that Event isn’t such a bad name after all.

Three things that changed everything for Solar Odyssey

In no particular order, the three technology advances that make the Solar Odyssey production even feasible are: Large sensors, Syncing double system production by audio waveforms, and the recognition of the importance of metadata. Alternate camera and lighting mounts, along with LED lighting and laptop computers powerful enough for primary production also play an important role.

Solar Odyssey Production Assistant Postion

By now you’ve probably heard of TheSolarOdyssey.com journey – in fact I’m already in Orlando doing Hoverfly training. If I get good enough they’re going to sponsor a Hoverfly Venu. These are awesome machines and I’ve made good progress in two days, but still have a way to go that will come with practice.

We were initially planning on taking on interns for two week cycles, but realized that would add a large burden of retraining with our new systems every two weeks!  Instead we opted to make three positions available: From Clearwater to New York City, from New York City to Chicago, and from Chicago back to Clearwater.

Content’s Never Been a Profit Center

Content’s Never Been a Profit Center,Why Should It Be Any Different Online? http://t.co/oJUx3r7y

Yes, viewers are moving online, but despite billions of connected devices out there, it’s unreasonable to think that in the slugfest between TV and the Internet, TV will lose.  But the fact remains that with falling rates, the pre-roll isn’t enough to fund online content.

For content to survive — let alone thrive — it needs to make economic sense.

That’s how the article starts and continues with a good analysis of why pre-roll and sponsorship may not be enough.

Activating data networks

I’ve come to the dangerous conclusion that the only time a phone company/data company can create a satisfactory customer interaction is when Apple impose it on them. In the last couple of weeks I’ve activated four cellular data plans, three in the last week!
